Lee Eunyeol’s beautiful light installations collectively  titled Starry Night combine the two in a way that is both haunting and magical.

Lee’s light installations make it look as if stars have fallen to the earth. Although the light installations are painstakingly fabricated by the Mr. Lee, they appear organic and natural. In some, it is as if the energy of earth itself is bursting forth from its subterranean depths.

In others it is as if the photographer stumbled upon a fairy party on a mid-summer’s evening. Lee Eunyeol’s Starry Night series is photographed at dusk to allow the natural light to highlight the landscape and provide his ethereal skies, providing an almost surreal setting for the low-energy LEDs of the light installation itself.  This combination in Lee Eunyeol’s landscape art creates scenes straight out of a fairy tale or dreamscape.

In Lee’s own words these stunning  light installations created by installing low-energy LED bulbs in natural settings and using temporal photographic techniques “Express private spaces given by night and various emotions that are not able to be defined and described in the space. I’ve chosen analogue type for the expression which attempts to install electric bulbs in an object to be expressed using back space of night by taking advantage of huge studio. There are two spaces in photographs. One is a

space before electric bulbs of familiar landscape are installed and the other is a space after electric bulbs expressed by dispersing personal emotion are installed. Unified light from these two spaces generates a mysterious landscape.”

Unfortunately Lee doesn’t have a website right now to show his other works, but he’s currently exhibiting the photos in the Seoul-based Gana Art Space.

(Lee is the artist’s family name. Eunyeol is his given name which, in traditional Korean fashion, is presented last as Lee Eunyeol. In the western tradition it would be written Eunyeol Lee.)

Enjoy!
