Maurice Sendak illustrator and author of children’s books including Where the Wild Things Are, Chicken Soup for the Soul, and In the Night Kitchen died today. For anyone who loves children’s book and children’s book illustration, that is a great loss. I imagine for Maurice Sendak, however, it is simply a the beginning of another story or a dream in which he wears no pants. (If that last bit makes no sense to you, read In the Night Kitchen or watch his interview with Stephen Colbert :)
You can find his obituary at the New York Times or watch these wonderful interviews with Stephen Colbert – the links to parts 1 & 2 are embedded below – his comments about Newt Gingrich are fantastic!

Mmmm that sounds like a good idea. I am torn between going to Fairway and getting a rotisserie chicken to start a soup and going to Chinatown to buy mangoes at 3 for a Dollar…
We should make Chicken soup with rice tonight. It would be so nice.
